AUGUSTA, G.A. (WIS) – A grandfather, son and grandson attended the Masters together in 2026, carrying on a family tradition that dates back to 1959 when Art Wall Jr. won the green jacket.
Greg, Corey and Declan Wall walked the grounds at Augusta National on Sunday, descendants of the 1959 Masters champion who won the tournament 67 years ago this month.
Wall entered Sunday’s final round six strokes behind the leaders, a group that included Arnold Palmer. He birdied five of the last six holes to win his first and only green jacket.
“When he won the Masters, I was 8 years old. I don’t remember him really winning, but I remember in our little hometown in Pennsylvania, driving in a Cadillac convertible at the parade, waving at everybody,” Greg Wall said.
Greg Wall caddied for his father at his last Masters in 1988.
“He had a very long career, won a bunch of tour events and things, so very fortunate. I was able to caddy for him at his last Masters here in 1988, which was a wonderful experience as well,” Greg Wall said.
Corey Wall brought his son Declan to the tournament.
“We were here with him four years ago, but he was a little bit young then, and so he’s really into it this year. And he’s been telling the story of his great-grandfather to a lot of people out on the course the last couple days,” Corey Wall said.
“It’s been really fun that you actually get to see all the players in real life. I know it’s very special that we’re able to do this, and that we are very lucky that my great-grandfather won,” Declan Wall said.
Greg Wall said the memories of Art Wall’s win are strongest on Sundays at the Masters.
“I just remember what Dad did on that Sunday in 1959 that was so special, but the way the Masters is run and the way they treat the patrons and being able to come out here and the excitement and how special this tournament is, there’s nothing like it,” Greg Wall said.
