Mario Paint was added to the Nintendo Switch Online service on July 29, 2025, as part of the Super NES Nintendo Classics library. Subscribers can access the game on both the original Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2. Original Switch systems require a compatible USB mouse (sold separately) connected to the dock, while Switch 2 users can utilize the Joy-Con 2 controller in mouse mode for cursor input and full gameplay functionality.2
The Nintendo Switch Online version of Mario Paint retains its core creative features from the 1992 original, including a digital drawing board with multiple colors and pattern tools, nested animation capabilities, and a music composition suite that uses Nintendo-themed sound stamps. The update also provides four save slots to preserve individual art, animation, or musical projects. Additionally, the game’s soundtrack has been made available through the Nintendo Music app at no extra cost to subscribers, further integrating Mario Paint into Nintendo’s digital services ecosystem.3
