At CES 2026, Fraimic introduced a product that aims to rethink how digital art lives on a wall.
The Fraimic Smart Canvas blends gallery-style presentation with AI-powered image generation, positioning itself as both a finished art object and an evolving creative surface.
Unlike conventional digital frames, it prioritizes restraint, material presence, and simplicity over screens and constant interaction.
The Smart Canvas uses a full-color Spectra 6 e-ink display paired with a minimalist black wood frame.
The matte, paper-like finish removes glare and closely mimics printed artwork.
Fraimic designed the canvas to visually disappear into a space, behaving more like framed art than consumer electronics.
Speaking to Interesting Engineering, Fraimic team member Nathaniel Paffett-Lugassy outlined the core idea behind the product.
“We’re developing a smart e-ink canvas that you hang on your wall like traditional art.”
Art without screens
The defining feature of the Smart Canvas is voice-driven image creation.
Users interact directly with the frame instead of relying on a phone or companion app.
A tap on the mat activates voice input, allowing the canvas to generate artwork from spoken prompts.
“Using e-ink technology, you can upload images or generate images using just your voice.”
Fraimic uses image-generation models from OpenAI, while adding curated style presets to keep visuals consistent and refined.
These presets aim to reduce unfocused or exaggerated AI aesthetics.
Users can also upload personal artwork or photos through a simple mobile website, without installing apps or relying on cloud services.
Paffett-Lugassy said the interaction model stays deliberately minimal.
“The interface is intentionally very simple.”
Fraimic placed equal emphasis on physical design.
The Smart Canvas fits standard frame sizes and supports interchangeable framing.
It runs cordlessly and consumes power only when images change, allowing for multi-year battery life.
An internal accelerometer enables automatic orientation detection. Images adapt to portrait or landscape placement without manual adjustments.
“The canvas has an accelerometer, so it understands whether it’s in portrait or landscape orientation.”
Fraimic currently offers two display sizes.
The smaller model features a 13.3-inch diagonal panel designed for a 14-by-18-inch frame.
A larger version uses a 31.5-inch diagonal display sized for a 24-by-36-inch frame.
“They’re priced at $399 and $999, respectively.”
Focus on experience
Fraimic positions usability as its main differentiator in a growing market of smart frames and generative displays.
Paffett-Lugassy shared that approachability matters more than technical novelty.
“There are other similar products out there, but ease of interaction is what sets us apart.”
“You can just walk up and interact with the canvas directly.”
Fraimic has opened preorders on its website and plans to begin shipping in May.
The company also plans future features, including scheduled albums, artist discovery tools, and additional sizes.
