The murals, which were designed and painted by Schrimmer with painting support from Marc Evan and Jody Wells, include:

  • “I Carry Your Heart;” Urban Hare, 106 S. Main St. – Inspired by a quote from E.E. Cummings, the mural features a vintage European poster-like scene of a female cyclist with flowers in her bike basket, a hare and Paris Mountain in the background.
  • “Where Travelers Come to Rest;” Highsmith & Highsmith building, 331 S. Main St. – Features two hikers relaxing while enjoying a mountain view.
  • “Hey Y’all, Welcome to Travelers Rest;” Loftis Printing, 301 S. Main St. – Designed as a postcard portraying notable historical events and people who helped set a course for the city’s future generations.

“Public art is an impactful way to create a sense of place and identity for a community, and murals are valuable tools,” said Travelers Rest City Administrator Shannon Herman. “The city is proud to have had the opportunity to partner with Blank Canvas to install these beautiful murals for our town.”

The city will host a public event Sept. 12 at 10 a.m. at Loftis Printing to celebrate the completion of three new murals in its downtown area.
