“I’m always drawn to pieces that carry both artistic integrity and cultural resonance, like ceramics, metalwork, folk objects. I also love pieces that have a real story about how they were made or how they ended up on the wall. Ceramics, in particular, are incredibly versatile; they can be traditional, modern or irreverent, and can come in any shape or size. They also bring a soft, human quality into any room. I also love metal pieces for the opposite reason. They create structure and drama.
“Choosing the right object is less about rules and more about balance. You can pair smooth and rough, reflective surfaces with matte items. The most important thing to remember is that when the story and palette align, you can mix almost anything from anywhere. Nothing is off limits. Mexican tin, Japanese ceramics, Scandinavian textiles, all of these can be used harmoniously as long as the story of the piece and spirit of the room are aligned.
“Think about how the object’s scale, texture and material interact with the architecture of the room. A smaller, more intimate room can be enhanced from a collection of handcrafted pieces, while a larger room might need one bold or expressive object. Like furniture pieces, crafts should feel like they are in conversation with the space.”
