Australia’s investment banks show off their art collection

Ask Helen Burton, director of Macquarie Group’s in-house art collection, how she measures success. One way is the number of emails or comments she receives when a painting has been moved.

“I have colleagues ring me and say how much they dislike a piece in an office or a meeting room, and I’m like: ‘That’s fantastic! Tell me why you don’t like it?’” she says, adding that she regularly gets the most feedback about art in the boardroom at the bank’s new Elizabeth Street office in the Sydney central business district.
