
The art enthusiasts in Trivandrum made a beeline to Vyloppilli Samskrithi Bhavan recently where renowned artists from across the country and abroad exhibited their musings on canvas.
The international painting exhibition organised as a part of ongoing Soorya Festival saw the participation of 60 artists, to mark the 60 years of Kerala Piravi. The show included paintings by 40 artists from within the country and 20 by those from countries like Germany, Netherlands, USA, Austria, Kenya, Switzerland, Malaysia, Romania, and Uganda.Artistic works on canvas traversed from murals to contemporary paintings. The paintings are not restricted to a specific theme and that reflected on the works.
Veteran artist B D Dattan says, “I have exhibited a work from my painting series Avastha which is a depiction of the present conditions prevailing in society. I feel delighted to share the space with artists from other parts of the country. The works are varied in theme and subject, which is an evidence of artistic freedom.”
Former Chairman of Kerala Lalitakala Academy, Kattoor Narayana Pillai’s painting conveyed that happiness lies in the hands of man. “The painting titled Vishama Vritham is a four piece on canvas that showcases that the ultimate pleasure in life is to find happiness. The way society chooses for it may be good or bad.”
Each artwork exhibited in the show is of a different style. The artists have portrayed their creativity through mediums such as watercolour, acrylic paint, oil-based paint, pen-and-ink, or a mix of multiple mediums. Spotted at the do were artists Geetha Karthik, Ponmani Thomas, Balayogi, Kanchana Manilal and Vittal Muppidy who were seen discussing the works with noted artists.
