In their first exhibition together, titled Parallel Intersection, the brother-sister duo of Rahul and Manisha Kumar, showcase their uncanny observations and expressions in art.
“Both of us have parallel professions in the corporate world but continue to take out time and pursue our passion for art simultaneously,” says Rahul Kumar, who likes to express his observations through ceramics in different forms and textures.
“Pottery allows me to express myself freely and combine the rigid, structured energy of my professional life with the tactile organic feel of my creative side,” says Rahul.
For making his creations, Rahul takes inspiration from everything around him. “The act of working with clay does not take too long once you have a form in mind,” he adds.
His sister, Manisha Kumar, on the other hand, likes to paint. She has a collection of 36 paintings dedicated to trees.
“Growing up in South Delhi, I took a lot for granted. It was only when I moved to Mumbai 15 years ago that I started missing the greenery, especially the trees so common in the capital,” she says.
During the long drives in Mumbai, Manisha saw trees from a new perspective.
“I noticed that these trees had a lot of character. Some of them were almost 100 years old. The texture on the huge trunks, falling branches and exposed roots caught my attention,” she adds.
About three years ago, she picked up the brush and started painting the trees on canvas.
